Yosi Horikawa, a graduate of Red Bull Music Academy is a sound creator
who builds music from recording and editing ambient sounds and noises from the everyday environment.
This movie “Layered Memories: Searching For Sound With Yosi Horikawa” follows Yosi
as he travels to the World Heritage island of Yakushimaand, later, as he plays the resulting music on speakers he has built himself.
It’s a behind-the-scenes look at how one of electronic music’s most exciting talents transforms the everyday into something extraordinary.



Yosi Horikawa is a sound creator who builds music from recording and editing ambient sounds and noises from the everyday environment. Performed at Sonar in 2012, and released his debut album, Vapor, in 2013, which landed on a number of Best Album of 2013 lists, and his subsequent world tour garnered even further accolades. This year he has participated in LA’s Low End Theory, Red Bull Music Academy Festival in New York, and the world’s largest festival- Glastonbury. Active across a range of fields, he also designs sound for the work of Kengo Kuma, a Japanese architect and beyond.
