h220430のデザイナー板坂諭は言う。「我々は自身の生活を支える基盤に実は大きな危険がはらんでいることを福島第一原子力発電所事故で体感した出来事から二年半。今なおその危険が確かに存在しているにも関わらず各地で検出される異常値はもはや常態化し、問題の根源が取り除かれないまま各地の原子力発電所が再び以前と同様に動き出そうとしている。異常値が検出される状態はもちろんのこと、それと同じ状態を再び生み出しかねないシステムを解決策のないまま再稼働させようとしているこの状況が、我々の日常であってはならないという事を常に意識しなければならない。」椅子の脚の一部が欠損した《Unusual chair》はそんな今の日本を形にした椅子。
With the accident at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, we caught a glimpse of the great dangers inherent in the infrastructure that supports our lives. In the two and a half years have passed since, the detection of abnormal levels of radiation has become commonplace. Currently, though a threat is most certainly still present, there is a movement to restart the previous level of nuclear activity- without ever having properly addressed the problem. We must be vigilant in our awareness that irregular levels are NOT the norm, and now, the move to reactivate a system with lingering issues （which could reproduce the same unfortunate results）should not be our everyday. The “Unusual Chair”, with its unresolved leg, is a reflection of the uneasiness of the Japanese present day.
